1,000 trucks. And nobody knows how many are empty right now.

I was talking to a logistics head at a large fleet operator last month. They run over 1,200 vehicles across India — FTL, PTL, dedicated fleet.

You may sneer — this is a known problem. But is it? Because I see this in every large fleet operation I visit. Not occasionally. Structurally.

THE MATHS

Let me be conservative.

1,000 vehicles on road. If just 4% are in post-delivery idle at any given time — that is 40 vehicles. At ₹5,000 per vehicle per day, that is ₹2 lakh per day in idle asset cost. ₹6 crore per year. Just from the waiting.

Now add the cost of alternate arrangements — fresh vehicles dispatched, emergency freight hired — on those same days when a nearby vehicle was sitting free but invisible. Add another 30%.

₹8 crore a year. Sitting on the road. Silent.

THE PUZZLE PIECE NOBODY HAS
